Sharing an honest story of admiration and chase as an artist, Dee-1 unabashedly gives details about performing at local clubs in Bankhead, time spent at SXSW and even details of relationships made to solidify his union with Grand Hustle.
Despite the quickened pace of the first 15 seconds and my excitement about the Coldplay sample, I found myself taking time to appreciate Dee-1’s delivery. As a fan I am both fully aware and appreciative of Dee-1’s aptitude to speak culturally. Dee’s rhyme pattern also likened to that of T.I’s in the 2010 hit single “I’m Back.” It could be me, or simply Dee-1 displaying his admiration for T.I. as an artist. Either way, for the humble spirit, it works.
With a proud poetic and creative outro delivered over a now Jazz infused production, Dee-1 closes the song where he is asked to come back to Atlanta under new management, bringing him that much closer to reaching his musical breakthrough.
